Thomas County first graders in Lynn Burton’s class at Garrison-Pilcher Elementary extended their understanding of texts by using pumpkins to create 3D caricatures based on characters in their favorite pieces of literature.  Creations are on display in the media center throughout the month of November.

Parker VanHeiningen shows off his mustached pumpkin and colorful trees from The Lorax by Dr. Seuss.  

Gracen Rose Warren’s display not only features the lovable character Wilbur the pig, it also includes oneof Charlotte’s web creations that states “Some Pig” from E.B. White’s beloved novel Charlotte’s Web.         

Saviyon Boykins’s pumpkin cleverly resembles the canine main character in Goldie by Ellen Mills.
