5th Annual SWAYJ Event

5th Annual SWAYJ Event

TCCHS will sponsor its 5th annual Shop With a Yellow Jacket (SWAYJ) event on Saturday, December 15, 2012 beginning at 8:00 a.m. SWAYJ is a community service event that allows TCCHS students to form teams of 4 or 5 members and sponsor a shopping buddy from one of the school system's lower elementary or pre-k schools. Student teams work together to raise $100 to take their buddy shopping on SWAYJ day.  The event is held at Wal-Mart on Highway 319 in Thomasville. Students and buddies begin their day at TCCHS and are transported by bus to Wal-Mart. The buses are escorted by our local Sheriff's office with lights flashing and sirens blaring! The TCCHS band forms a spirit line to usher the students and buddies into Walmart to the tunes of the TCCHS fight song and festive Christmas carols. The teams race off together as the buddies carefully select gifts for each member of their immediate family and themselves. Throughout the store TCCHS chorus members sing jolly Christmas carols while teachers assist the teams with their shopping. Teams then check out at specially designated cash registers by cheerful Walmart employees.   Teams are then taken back to the high school for a pizza lunch and gift wrapping before the buddies are sent home with their treasures. At last year's event over 300 TCCHS students formed teams and took 75 buddies shopping. The goal for this year is 100 buddies. This event is assisted each year by Walmart and Papa John's. If you would like to make a donation, please speak with Regina Beasley or Melissa Rodgers at 229-225-5050.
