TCMS High Techs Lego Team Take Second at State in Robot Competition

FLL

The TCMS High Techs FIRST LEGO League team competed in the State First Lego League (FLL) competition in Atlanta, Georgia on February 1, 2020. The High Techs placed second on the robot portion of the state competition. Previous to winning at state, these students won at Regional and Super-Regional Competitions to be able to advance to the state competition.

The theme this year was "City Shapers." First Lego League encourages students to think like scientists and engineers. Teams compete in three areas: Robot, Core Values, and Project. Students research and solve a real-world problem, alongside building, testing, and programming a robot.

Throughout the competition and practice, students must learn to work together to solve a real-world problem that they create. This year, the research portion of the competition was based on how to improve our community. The High Techs’ researched and decided to solve a problem that fellow students face on a daily basis; the lack of resources for individuals with special needs. With guidance from experts in our community, students developed a way for individuals with special needs to have more to do at our local parks.
