Holland WBL Student of Month

Anne-Marie Holland, a Thomas County Central High School senior employed by Thomas County Board of Education through the Work-Based Learning program, has been named the WBL Student of the Month for December.

Holland’s supervisor, Hand-In-Hand Primary School Assistant Principal Robin Shaver said, “Anne-Marie is a special young lady” and “a natural teacher.”

“She is caring and compassionate about working with our youngest students in the Child Development wing at Hand-In-Hand Primary,” Shaver said. “She assists them each day with learning centers and instruction. She also works in our library assisting our media specialist with shelving books and getting story time activities ready for our Kindergarten and Pre-K students.”

TCCHS Work-Based Learning coordinator Michelle Ausley said Holland, from day one of attending the program, “has shown maturity beyond her years, the upmost responsibility and takes the extra mile, making her work-based learning assignments shine with excellence.”

“She is a model student at its highest,” Ausley said.

Holland said she “loves interacting with the children and seeing their smiling faces every day." She plans to major in Early Childhood Education.

“The opportunity of working at Hand-in-Hand is helping to prepare me for my future career," Holland said. “I've learned how to respond in different situations, such as when a child gets hurt, or acts in a positive way."

Shelley Wilson, Holland’s mentor and classroom teacher at Hand-In-Hand, said Holland “has a genuine love and concern for each child.”

“She gets to their level when communicating with them and helps them when needed,” Wilson said. “WBL is such a great program because it provides these kids with hands on experience. We love Ms. Anne-Marie and the kids love her, too! We are so grateful to have her!”

Shaver said Hand-In-Hand is “excited each year” to partner with TCCHS for the WBL program.

“The WBL students are an asset to our program and are positive role models for the youngest students in the Thomas County School system,” she said.
