November is Georgia Apply to College Month, and Thomas County Central High School intends to take full advantage of the Georgia Apply to College program’s opportunities.
TCCHS will host its Apply to College Day Thursday, Nov. 9. During the school day, senior students can visit the school’s media center computer lab to complete at least one college admission application.
“We are excited about being able to offer this opportunity to our students,” TCCHS Senior Guidance Counselor Tammy Shealey said. “The goal is to provide our seniors with help from knowledgeable volunteers as they navigate the college application process and take advantage of ‘No Fee November’ through GAFutures.org.”
According to the official website, the program seeks to provide all high school seniors the chance to apply to college while assisting first-generation and underrepresented students navigate the application process.
Representatives from Southern Regional Technical College and Thomas University will be on-site to aid school staff with hands-on support as students fill out applications.
“Thomas University looks forward to helping students throughout the day,” TU Admissions Representative Josh Barrett said. “It’s important that students have the opportunity to further their education, and this could be [an] important first step for many students.”
Also, students can prepare for the day by clicking on the look ahead to Apply to College Day announcement in the Class of 2024 Google Classroom. It includes a student prep sheet of information likely needed for their application(s).
The Georgia Student Finance Commission sponsors the annual event, supported by various state education organizations. These include Communities in Schools, the Georgia Department of Education, the Georgia Independent College Association, the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education, the Technical College System of Georgia, and the University System of Georgia.
