Welcome to Mr. Smith's 9th Lit/Comp Class!

My name is Layton Smith, and I'm excited to be teaching 9th Grade Lit/Comp this year at TCCHS after spending the past 8 years at Cairo High School teaching Lit/Comp and Journalism! As a teacher, I am committed to creating engaging learning opportunities for my students in a space where they can be themselves and explore their interests. 

This year we will be reading, discussing, and analyzing texts from a wide variety of genres while also building our vocabulary and writing skills. 

All class assignments, information, and resources can be found on Google Classroom. Students should bring their charged Chromebooks to class each day.

About Me:

I have spent most of my life in Georgia. I grew up in Macon (Cairo High School, '03) and graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor's in journalism in 2007. After deciding on a career change, I earned my Master of Arts in Teaching from Piedmont College in 2014, then moved across the state to accept my first teaching job. 

My wife, who teaches Pre-K at Hand in Hand, and I welcomed our first child, Thomas, last September.
