Advisory Committee

The Thomas County Schools Advisory Committee meets three times a year to discuss industry trends, workforce needs, and other initiatives that will benefit both local businesses and our students.

The advisory committee is simply a set of stakeholders who come together with a shared goal and vision of preparing students for the future.  The committee provides advice and guidance to support our Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) programs.

The primary purpose of the advisory committee is to ensure programs, curriculum, skills, and technology are aligned with what’s happening in the real world. The committee promotes greater cooperation between the educational environment and the private sector in preparing students for employment. Additionally, the advisory committee promotes a quality CTAE education ensuring that the skills and technology being taught in the classroom are responsive to the needs of the workplace.

As a member of an advisory committee, you would help us streamline our programs to meet the needs of our community and surrounding areas.  Members will attend two meetings a school year, one in the fall and one in the spring. These meetings will help to strengthen our educational programs.

Some areas we may need some assistance in are listed below.

  • Increase community awareness of our CTAE programs

  • Provide industry tours

  • Help provide guest speakers

  • Worksites for a job shadowing day

  • Assist in recruiting new advisory members

  • Give input to guide the curriculum

  • Help judge competitive events

  • Set in on mock interviews

  • Provide job placements for work-based learning students
